Texans’ Cal McNair, Hannah McNair, Toro visit Fire Station 33: ‘They are every-day heroes’

HOUSTON – Cal McNair and Hannah McNair donned firefighter suits, carried axes and wielded firehoses, shooting water into the street Thursday morning in Houston.

The Texans visited Fire Station 33 in Houston in honor of the annual Salute to Service and first responders game Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

“They are our every-day heroes,” said Cal McNair, the Texans’ principal owner and CEO. “They run in when everyone is running out. That’s their saying and it’s true. They’re putting their lives on the line to save other people. We’re incredibly grateful for all they do for the city and all of us.”

While the Texans visited the fire station on Fannin Street and brought Community Coffee and Whataburger for the firefighters, they went through a lot of the drills of what it takes to be a full-fledged firefighter, including wearing a fire-resistant suit.

“It’s heavy,” said Hannah McNair, the Texans foundation vice president. “I can’t imagine being out there in August putting our fires with the heat and just how much this weighs and how warm it is. It’s impressive, and I can’t thank them enough for what they do. I’m more grateful than even before knowing what this feels like.”
