Galaxy Lights at Space Center Houston is celebrating its 6th year and on Thursday, they’re having their first ever Low Sensory Night.
They want to provide a calm, relaxed atmosphere for people who prefer a quieter, less stimulating experience, but still want to celebrate the holiday season.
“It’s become a holiday tradition here in Houston,” said William Harris, President and CEO of Space Center Houston.
Space-themed Galaxy Lights at Space Center Houston is launching holiday cheer.
“We present space themed lights to celebrate the holiday season,” he said.

Low Sensory Night is aimed to help people with sensory sensitivities, including those on the Autism Spectrum or with Sensory Processing Disorders.
“We turn down the lights and a lot of the stimuli, but still have an incredibly rich, fun experience for all of our visitors. We also have a quiet room where if someone is getting too much stimulation,” said Harris.
They will turn down the lights and music and even provide dark glasses and hearing maps. Low Sensory night offers an inclusive and accessible way to enjoy the holiday season.
“We’ve heard that our community, who are sensory sensitive, would like to still come and enjoy the holiday lights, but in a level that’s not going to trigger, that’s going to be less stimulus but still exciting for them.” Harris said
Space Center Houston became the first science center in the world certified as an autism service center, meaning every staff member is trained and certified to be responsive to people who are living with autism.
Galaxy Lights is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and runs through January 5th.
