Jose Altuve skipping All-Star Game to rest bruised hand

HOUSTON – Big news coming out of Minute Maid Park on Thursday afternoon as next week’s All-Star game plans have changed for AL Starting 2nd baseman Jose Altuve.   The Astros star, who was hit in the hand last Friday in Minnesota , is still not 100% and Thursday he announced he will skip the game and trip to Arlington.

After arriving at the ballpark Altuve addressed the decision with the media.

“We have an important second half coming up,” said Altuve. “I want to be healthy. I’m proud and thankful  for all the Astros fans who voted for me. This is a big deal for us and we are very thankful.”

Altuve, who missed only one game , has continued to remain in the lineup despite dealing with discomfort.  He says it has been important to play with the Astros on a big run and want to finish the first half on a strong note.

“I got hit in the hand and have been playing through it,” Altuve added. “So I really need to take  these days and get ready for 2nd half.   I got hit by a 96 right in the hand so it’s still swollen and bruised. We are trying to win and finish strong so these four days will be good to heal and come back ready in the  second half.”

Outfielder Kyle Tucker has also officially been replaced as well. Tucker has been out for over a month after taking a foul ball off of his right shin.  DH Yordan Alvarez, who has a sore hip, still plans to take part in the All-Star Game.
